WHISTLING STRAITS
WELCOME
Welcome to Whistling Straits
I welcome you to the 2010 PGA Championship played out on the famous Straits course of Whistling Straits. It is an encore performance after the record debut of 2004. The drama of golden fescue grasses, brilliant green tees and greens against the blues of Lake Michigan, the 1,200 sand bunkers, the shifting winds and the ability of Pete Dye to torment the strongest field of players this year will be an awesome sight. It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.
But to make this happen depends on people mostly from Wisconsin, a whole lot of
passionate people, working together as mini teams and big teams all with a single
objective – to show more than 150 million observers both here and around the world that we
indeed can produce the best.
I am proud of our working relationship with The PGA of America, the organization that represents the best interests of golf club professionals across our country and makes an event like this Championship possible.
I am proud of the Governor and his staff who have shown genuine interest and support for this Championship and for the Wisconsin golf industry as a whole.
I am proud of the leadership and tenacity of my associates at Kohler Co., who dig in again and again and get it done.
And boy, am I proud of the 3,000 plus volunteers, many of whom have returned for another engagement to work behind the scenes for the love of the game, but never get to see the game except for an occasional glimpse on TV.
So with all of this in mind, I welcome you to Whistling Straits, hosting the last and strongest Major of the year. Let the winds blow.
Herbert V. Kohler Jr. Chairman and CEO Kohler Co.
