Kohler Co. hopes to honor the past while it focuses on the future in St. Andrews, Scotland, the rugged coastland town regarded as the birthplace of golf. The company recently added to its Destination St. Andrews portfolio by purchasing the historic Hamilton Hall, a stately four-story building that overlooks the 18th green of the world-famous Old Course and the Royal and Ancient Building.
An iconic building with a
storied history as the Grand
Hotel, initially a World War II army
headquarters, and a residence hall for the
University of St. Andrews, Hamilton
Hall
had fallen into disrepair but will be
dramatically restored as a development of
26 luxury
apartments. The
property will be
named Hamilton
Grand in honor of
the building’s past
lives as The Grand
Hotel and Hamilton
Hall. Plans will be
released following
the conclusion of the
public consultation
process.

Course Hotel and Kohler Waters Spa, and The Duke’s golf course. World-class luxury suites and a state-of-the-art conference wing were recently added to the Old Course Hotel to complement its three restaurants, state-of-the-art spa, and stunning views of the Old Course and Scottish coastline. The Kohler-renovated Duke’s course is a majestic heathland course that is now considered a “must play” for golfers who want to test their game in the legendary town where it all began.
Kohler continues to offer gracious hospitality at its resort properties on both sides of the pond. For more information visit www.DestinationKohler.com.
The shortest of the Straits’ par 5 holes, Hole 16, “Endless Bite,” tempts most players to drive off the tee to gain a chance to hit this green in two. The fairway’s center is a wise place to find since sand bunkers protect the right and the fairway drop-offs toward Lake Michigan to the left.
